Children’s day out at Kasarmi

  • Vaasa

Ikkuna News: Long summer days and vacation for children make them not only excited but also restless. It could be strenuous for the parents who seek to find some fun activities for their kids as a family.

Piccolo Festival 2015 held on the 26th July is a bilingual, multicultural and cross-cultural event for children. The audience get to see different kinds of performances and participate in various workshops.

– We provide five hours of full high-quality programs for the whole family. There are different events to choose from for different audiences, says Cosimo Galiano, one of the organizers of the event.

Culture at Kasarmi. The event is organized by Paula Blåfield of Näyttämö Pegasos Scen in collaboration with Galiano’s Pikku Aasin Nukketeatteri.

– The event will take place in the Kasarmi area, in the courtyard between Barrack 13 and Barrack 14, and inside the Barrack 13. The address is Korsholmanpuistikko 6–8.

They aim to bring culture and arts of different kind together for today’s children.

– The day is filled with puppet shows, choreography, dance and music workshops. We also have African food served to make it multicultural.

Event history. A festival called Villa dei Misteri took place in Vaasa during the summer the last few years. It was also an event for the children.

– When this ended we decided to create a new concept including the active artists from the Kasarmi area, says Galiano.

This event is different from the previous festival as it builds on a specific theme. The theme for this year is colours and includes guest performances from Teatro Dell’es from Italy.

The organizers are hopeful of making Festival Piccolo into a yearly event which grows annually. In October there will also be an international puppet theatre festival in Vaasa arranged by Pikku Aasin Nukketeatteri.
