IKKUNA NEWS: It is good to have a sense of community feeling and organize an event which would help people around and people in need. Apart from helping the people, it also brings communities together for discussions and tackle some other issues or problems that exist.
One such event is part of the Lions Club Vaasa/Africa yearly program to donate free clothes and toys as well as shoes to children aged between 0–6 years. This is the second of its kind that is taking place. The first one took place in September of 2015.
– It is just a part of our commitment to community activity towards the well-being of kids especially but not limited to the asylum seekers. We would love the participation of Finns in this event very much as our target are children, whatever kind, says Amen Kofi Gokah of the Lions Club.
The event. The whole idea is just to take off some burden off parents when these clothes are usable without any challenges. The event will take place at Arbetets Vänner I Vasa r.f Ajurinkatu 14, 65100 Vaasa and it is on the 23rd of January 2016.
– The idea of this particular form of donation came from proposed projects by the members of the club which was approved by the board of directors of the club. We give credence to our Mother Lions Club thus The Lions Club Vaasa Meri. They have been very supportive in our activities and helping us to grow as a club.
About the club. Lions Club Vaasa/Africa are in the second year of existence in Vaasa.
– Our very first public activity that was organized with the public in mind was the first clothes distribution event. We are currently 12 members in the group and we try to have an activity for each month. For instance we had wanted to visit the senior citizens home in December to spend some time with the elderly people but for some reason our letter to the authorities never got any response.
There are people from different nationalities and more people are welcome to be a part of the club. They plan to organize more of such events but of course it will depend on the availability of the necessary materials.
– This club is purely into organising humanitarian and community service. We do not charge anything for services rendered but we do however seek for sponsorship in order to serve better those who need such services.
